Beschrijving
De optische Schakelaar is een opnieuw te gebruiken passieve component die in vezel en Kabelverbinding zou kunnen worden toegepast. Zij worden wijd gebruikt in ODF, ODN, PON enz.
FC was de eerste optische vezelschakelaar om een ceramische metalen kap te gebruiken, maar in tegenstelling tot plastic gebouwde Sc en LC, gebruikt het een rond die screw-type onderdeel van vernikkeld of roestvrij staal wordt gemaakt. Het gezicht van het schakelaareind baseert zich op een groeperingssleutel voor correcte toevoeging en in de adapter/de hefboom gebruikend een ingepaste ring dan aangehaald. Ondanks de extra ingewikkeldheid zowel in productie als installatie, is het nog de schakelaar van keus voor nauwkeurige meetapparatuur zoals OTDRs.
Aanvankelijk bestemd voor datacoms en telecommunicatietoepassingen, heeft zijn gebruik sinds de introductie van Sc en LC verminderd. Deze leveren gelijkaardige prestaties aan FC maar allebei hebben minder dure componenten en zijn sneller te verbinden. Nochtans, maakt de screw-on ring van FC het bijzonder in hoge trillingsmilieu's efficiënt ervoor zorgen, die dat de metalen kap met veerwerking stevig wordt gekoppeld.
